Brad Nystul was my father. On Father’s Day I googled his name and got nothing. That really bothered me. he lived a stored life full of friends and only a few years after his death he has faded from public record. This shall not stand. I’m going to do what i can to raise awareness about him and his life and return him to our consciousness. I love you dad and I miss you terribly.

The whole family at King Richard’s Faire. Bry still reacts that way to LARPing ;)

BRAD FACTS

  • The only ttrpg I remember my dad running was James Bond 007 (by Victory Games). He was a big 007 fan. It did not go great. he was a gifted actor but maintaining any sense of pacing at the table was beyond him. I still feel bad for not being more patient and supportive of his efforts.

  • Dad loved playing D&D, but like most people, he hated coming up with character names. His solution - he called all of his characters Sormat.

  • Dad loved camp coffee with metal pot, a scoop of grounds and an egg (shell shards included).

  • Dad taught himself to do the Faro Shuffle while in the army. It is a technique for shuffling a deck in such a way that you end up with the cards in the original order. Very tricky but very impressive. I could never manage it.

Dad on the right, his best friend and Assistant Scoutmaster Bill Dreasler on the left giving Dan Dowling an award, which he doubtless deserved because Dan is a hell of a guy (always was).

Mom and Dad. I’m not sure when or where this was. They met in high school in the theater and did theater together their entire lives.
