I’m not sure when the first Cheese Game took place. My eldest daughter thinks it was 9 years ago so likely it was around then give or take a year or two. It was inspired by my learning that my kid’s friends hadn’t tried much outside the American / Cheddar / Colby American basics. Some had tried Swiss but there was a lot I could expose them to so I designed a game to make learning fun. The goal of ‘Cheese Quest’ was collecting samples of cheese for the cheese king / beware the cheese goblins or end up in ‘Cheese Hell’ where you could end up eating “Punishment Cheese” (american slices and spray cheese). Everyone had fun and a tradition was born.
This year was a space race / battle in which you designed your own ship, built it out of cheese sticks and whizzed around the universe eating cheese and using cheese balls for fuel (I think?).
When we were on Lockdown I created a remote game played online. Everyone got their own cheese. Nothing stops the Cheese Game! I prefer seeing everyone but this was still fun. I hosted 4 sessions in all.
What started as a few pieces of cheese on a board has evolved into an annual tradition for friends and family. Every Cheese Game is unique; this year it was a series of challenges vaguely inspired by Squid Game. Here, only cheese was harmed. So. Much. Cheese.
I went all in the last time I did this. I created an actual board game that was a Dune parody. You had to chase Cheese Blows and avoid the Cheese Worm (I think). Kind went overboard… Fun though!
